Biography
Heather began training her voice aged 13 and enjoyed performing in local amateur musical theatre productions. By the age of 14 Heather was already performing a repertoire of jazz standards, folk and pop songs professionally in local bars. A background in the performing arts at college gave Heather a broad appreciation of a range of musical genres and other artforms. Heather also studied alto saxophone as a second instrument through college and University. At Salford University Heather enjoyed performing with the Salford University Big Band, and rehearsed a gospel group which performed at Manchester's 'Band on the Wall'. It was also during her time at University that Heather became a backing vocalist with a 9 piece Stevie Wonder Tribute band which performed at The Lowry Theatre in Salford Quays, in Covent Garden in London and many other venues in Manchester and London. Heather also formed a succesful guitar and vocal jazz duo with Alex Johnson which blended jazz standards, swing, blues ballads, latin bossa nova and their own versions of soul standards. Inspired by the wonderful duo recordings of Joe Pass with Ella Fitzgerald Heather and Alex became very popular, performing all over Manchester and with residencies in Chester and towns in South Manchester and Cheshire.
Heather performs all over the UK and has had summer residencies with her band in 5* hotels in the Mediterranean.
Heather currently performs with some very fine musicians and has a regular group which incorporates saxophonist Edward Leaker (graduate of The Royal Academy of Music, London). Edward recently supported Clare Teal and has performed for HRH The Queen. Heather has recently perfomed with her musicians for Jasper Conran and at an exclusive party at Harvey Nicholls in Bristol.
Heather now performs as vocalist with the Swing Machine Jazz Orchestra Big Band, last October's performance in Wells was a total sell out and the group look forward to their next performances... Watch this place for information.
